Welcome Jason!

Our newest Board Member

Please join us in welcoming Jason Kofman to the Second Chance Foods Board.

Please join us in welcoming our newest board member, Jason Kofman. Jason is a fantastic new addition to our already amazing board. He has a passion for environmental sustainability and reducing hunger and 30 years of professional experience in finance, operations, and management. Not only is he committed to food justice, equity, and protecting our planet, but Jason has already rolled up his sleeves in the kitchen, helping chop, pack, and wash dishes.

We’re so excited to have him join the board and know he’ll help us grow the impact of Second Chance Foods to help more people in need.

"I was inspired to get involved because of the passion everyone at Second Chance Foods has for addressing the dual mission of environmental sustainability and reducing hunger. We are a small group of motivated people pulling together to make this world better for our environment and our community. "

Giving back to the community.

Jason is thrilled to join the board because of his commitment to community and volunteering. “Helping Second Chance Foods achieve its mission allows me to contribute in a small way to help make many peoples’ lives better.”  We’re already grateful for his dedication and increased support as he adds the board to his volunteer responsibilities.

Since Jason learned about us, he’s been volunteering at least one Saturday a month. “It’s fun working with different people pulling together to get tasks done. Importantly, we aim to put every bit of rescued food to work. We get quite creative in how the food is used so it does not go to waste, but instead ends up in a healthy meal.” Jason has worked in kitchens in the past and enjoys cooking for his family so he’s right at home with everyone at Second Chance Foods. “I’m used to doing a lot of chopping and washing up and those are the only skills you need to make a difference!”

More About Jason

Second Chance Foods focuses on two critical challenges: environmental sustainability and reducing hunger. It is that rare organization that delivers simultaneously on a dual mandate and does both really well. I was inspired to get involved because of the passion everyone at Second Chance Foods has for addressing these missions. We are a small group of motivated people pulling together to make this world better for our environment and our community.

I’ve been fortunate to have worked for three fantastic companies over the past 30 years: Moody’s Analytics, Oliver Wyman, and Goldman Sachs. While specializing in sales, I also have experience in finance, operations, and general management. At home, my wife Kathleen and I have three great kids (Sam, Zoe & Nate) and our dog Siena. I spend my spare time playing bass guitar and trying to be outside as much as possible.

I like to cook what’s in season. Zucchini, tomatoes & corn in the summer, brussel sprouts & broccoli rabe in autumn, cabbage in winter, and asparagus in spring.

Traveling and cooking. I’ve been to 57 countries and enjoy trying recipes from all over.

"Second Chance Foods leads by example showing the world that putting a bit of forethought into how unused food will be treated can have a host of beneficial downstream impacts: reduced landfill, smaller carbon footprint, less hunger. This comes with no additional cost to the food supplier. It is a model that I hope other communities will adopt. "

New to Second Chance Foods?

Visit our About Us page to meet our incredible team! Our board is a hard working group of 6 volunteers that share their talents and serves the Second Chance Foods mission in numerous ways. We also have a small team of three that has grown to five (stay tuned for more info!). Our volunteers make so much possible, but our small staff ensures these volunteers have support, training, assistance, so that together we can rescue more food and connect it to our hungry neighbors in need.
